Apprent-ICE 2016 Blog #8
With the start of April already among us the Scott Base staff were due a long weekend!! The social club and I planned a mini golf tournament. Everyone on Base jumped aboard, and we ended up creating 9 remarkable horror themed holes. It was an awesome night with plenty of the McMurdo crew coming across to get amongst the action. Unfortunately my golfing skills have not improved at all with me achieving a score well above par. (I am pretty suspect on some of the scoring that was going on though). Sadly this weekend is set to be mine and the rest of the construction crews last weekend at Scott Base with our flight home supposed to be on Friday (the flights onto and from the continent have a tendency to get delayed around here so we might have a bit longer left yet!).
I have been making the most of the fine weather we have been going out and about on walks as much as possible as my time left at Base is fast decreasing. I am also staying up most of the night trying to catch sight of an Auroras. They are around I am just yet to see one!!!
We have had another hectic week here work wise trying to get everything completed and even getting a jump start on the next stage of internal fit out so when the construction crew come back down in August they can just continue on. Next week we have make a plan to start moving around and reloading the 40ft shipping containers with construction waste/ left overs that are set to return back to Christchurch when the ship makes the long journey south in Jan 2017.
We also had a skidoo trip planned for Sunday but the weather had different ideas with a chilly cold temperature or mid -50s. Although we have all been busting to have a go on these since the day we arrived we decided we would wait for a more enjoyable riding temperature hopefully before Friday.
