Vanda Station operated on the shores of Lake Vanda for 25 years from 1968 - 1994. During this time, some minor environmental contamination occurred due to human presence. Environmental assessments were made in the 1990's to determine the residual contamination and possible environmental effects. This event saw a continuation of this assessment now that Lake Vanda has flooded the former station's footprint. During this event, water and sediment was sampled to be analyzed for known contaminants. Preliminary results indicate no release of contaminants into the waters of Lake Vanda, and no sign of environmental effects on the Lake's ecosystem.
